Mirror’s Edge Preview

Dont Look Down

"Don't Look Down!" - NOTE: CONCEPT ART NOT A SCREENSHOT

Probably the best kept video game secret so far this year is Mirror’s Edge. A new IP, something rare in the industry these days that looks extremely promising. As promising as it looks, we still don’t know all that much about it, thanks to the talented minds at Sweden’s DICE studio keeping their mouth shut. (more…)

“McCain Wins Debate” Ad a Little Premature? *Lots of Text*

It’s never a good idea to proclaim victory beforehand. Karma usually has a way of coming back to bite you in the ass when you least expect it. Thinking back I can remember when Matt Hasselbeck, during a playoff overtime loss to the Packers a few years back, said “We want the ball and we’re going to score” then promptly through an interception that led to the Packers winning the game. And I pulled one myself during a rematch of that game last year when Seattle went up 14-0 over the Packers when I said the game was pretty much done for and wandered off to take care of a few things only to watch Seattle self-destruct a few minutes later. I digress with all of this football karma. Yesterday, Chris Ciliza was sent an ad McCain created that proudly announced him as the winner of last night’s debate. Might’ve been a little bit premature if the polls are anything to go by.

I brought up the three major cable news organizations’ websites and looked for viewer polls for who “won” the debate. MSNBC, Fox, and CNN all cited the same poll so I’m just going to go with the first site that I read the article on which was MSNBC. (more…)

Post-Debate Mutterings

So tonight was the first of the three scheduled Presidential debates for 2008 and I thought that it was a solid, if uneventful showing that was for the most part devoid of “Youtube Moments.” The format was perfect with Jim Lehrer tossing out topics and then letting the two of them actually debate between themselves before he would come back in to get a new topic on the docket. Looking back at the debate I could sit here and go line by line but that’d be just a waste of time really. Both candidates are going to smudge, smear, and sneak throughout the debate so I’m going to focus on some of the things I noticed as I sat here watching the exchange instead. (more…)

McCain Invents Time Travel and Wins Debate That Hasn’t Happened

McCain has already won a debate that wont happen for another 4 hours and 43 minutes.

McCain has already won a debate that won't happen for another 4 hours and 43 minutes.

I couldn’t help but get a good laugh out of this one. Conjuring images of the “Dewey Defeats Truman!” newspaper in 1948, John McCain’s campaign has released internet ads that proclaim “McCain Wins Debate” while another has campaign manager Rick Davis saying “McCain won the debate-hands down.” There’s nothing inherently wrong with spinning something your way, every campaign does it (some more than others). But there is a problem when you spin a debate performance your way…that hasn’t even happened yet. So in an odd and somewhat confusing turn of events, this has become an issue and non-issue at the same time. Let me explain… (more…)

Palin Bans Reporters From Meeting, Kinda Backs-off

Beginning her crash course in politics outside of Wasilla and Anchorage, Alaska, Sarah Palin met with Afghani President Hamid Karzai, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, and Fmr. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. But before these meetings she created a little bit of a hoopla when reporters learned that they would be kept out of the room but the still photographers and cameras would be allowed in. Rightly so, the reporters pushed back and demanded that they be allowed in (which is par for the course), with CNN going so far as to pull the only television coverage of the meeting. Palin seemed to have relented as her staff agreed to let the CNN producer into the meeting, eventually bringing in reporters for a whopping 40 seconds as she and Karzai spoke about his son. Potential GOP Absentee Ballot Fraud

*Right off the bat, I want to say that there isn’t a clear cut answer to what is happening with these registration forms. It’s possible that all of this is a large mistake on the part of the McCain campaign but it could also be a concerted effort to nullify the votes of many Democrats in the Great Lakes area.

But onto the issue at hand. Over at the Racine Post they have an article up that is examining the mailing of McCain literature to residents of Wisconsin towns, many of whom are strong Democrat activists, to assist these people in registering for absentee ballots. The problem with this is that the return addresses for the registration forms are for the wrong counties. According to the election officials, the forms would’ve been rerouted to the proper locations but with the workers swamped with new registration forms and the deadlines stacked closely it could be very likely that these voters might not recieve their ballots in time for the election. He’s Back…

During E3, Bungie got in a little kerfluffle with Microsoft after their next project announcement was scrapped because of “an embarrasment of riches.” It’s been a few months now and Bungie is back with the cryptic line in their WWU yesterday “It’s always darkest before the dawn, and the dawn is about to break” which was followed on Friday by the posting of a scrambled image of the Superintendent. On the page there is what appears to be a log of some sort that has clear references to Halo. I would expect an announcement sometime next week.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Review *Spoilers*

The Force Unleashed originally looked like it would be nothing more than a glorified tech demo with Lucasarts tossing all of these great technologies into the game to show them off but not really do much with them. Lately, the Star Wars brand has been in a rut so I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one who had this fear. Thankfully, The Force Unleashed is a great game with an awesome story. (more…)
