The Wonders of An (Almost) Unlimited Campaign Budget

Over on First Read (MSNBC’s Political Blog) they have received word followed by subsequent updates that the Obama camp has gone ahead and purchased a 30 minute timeslot on the three major networks on October 29th, with Fox still undecided due to the World Series. NBC has confirmed that their timeslot is at 8 pm, right at the beginning of primetime programming. No other information has come out as to what this chunk of time would be devoted to but we can assume that whatever it is, the campaign thinks it’s important enough to throw an enormous amount of money around to get the message across.

I’m guessing that they’ll devote this time to presenting Obama one last time to the American populace as well as debunking some of the nastiness that has popped up, such as the ridiculous Bill Ayers thing. This was mentioned on Countdown just a few minutes ago and Keith Olbermann mentioned that Ross Perot did something like this as well as it being a common thing to do in the 70’s, but since I wasn’t born in that time period I really can’t say what other precedent has been set for this type of thing. Should be an interesting night to see what they do with the time.
